Departure time:   0600
Conditions:  Warm, sunny day
Wind:  10 SW (during a.m.)
           25 SW ( during p.m.)
Planned Destination:  Deltaville, VA
Actual destination:  Reedsville, VA

Trip from Solomons, Md to Reedville, Va, was uneventful.  Beautiful morning, lots of sun, a little cool to begin the morning.  Passed by several boats going both North and South on the Chesapeake Bay.

Our day ended at Reedville, we tacked all day in 24 knot winds making it a good day of sailing.  We followed a C&C 29, from Canada into the river and eventually to Brown's Marina.  Having never been into the Reedville area, we at first followed a monohull into the river and discovered he did not seem to know where he was going!  So we started following the C&C 29, not noticing that they were flying a Canadian flag!  Assuming they knew where they were going, we followed them until they did a circle and started to head back out the river.  We elected to go into Brown's Marina, the Canadian boat followed suit.  That evening we invited the Canadians aboard for a cocktail and friendly discussion on the the of sailing.  We would end up either following the Canadians or meeting them at various stops.  The Canadians, Dean and Joy, were great to travel with and to share our evenings over a friendly cocktail.

Reedville itself, turned out to be quite a smelly place!  Next to the marina is a fish processing factory, which of course was upwind from our slip.  We smelled the wonderful aroma of the processing all night long.  Was sure glad when we set sail the next morning.

Day 2:  October 5, 2002

Departed:  0700
Destination:  Norfolk, Va - Hospital Point
Winds:  15-25 SW
Weather:  Clear, sunny day

We departed at 0700, leaving our new friends behind as they were awaiting a fax from Canada.  Once again our day was spent tacking and enjoying the sail.  We had winds over 20 knots most of the day, which made for long easy tacks.  We played around so much sailing that we did not reach the anchorage at Hospital Point till after dark.  It is always fun to arrive in a busy port after dark.  We finally found a good spot to anchor in Hospital Point and settled down for the evening.

After retiring for the evening, we were lying in bed discussing our day, which at that time of the evening was quite hot and sticky, suddenly it seemed like someone had turned on the air conditioner!  The wind picked up from the North and blew hard the rest of the night.  I slept like a rock, my wife worried a little about the anchor!  We watched a mid-size power boat come in and attempt to anchor several times, having failed he left the area!

Tomorrow, October 6, 2002, the real adventure begins!
